There is an old Yiddish proverb: We plan, God laughs, and it expresses a truth everyone can relate to. At every stage of life, we make plans, setting out where we want to go and imagining what it will be like when we get there. But things have a way of turning out not quite what we hoped or expected and in 2020 we can all relate to that.
We think of 2020 in the negative, juggling emotions of fear and uncertainty and saddened for all that was lost. And its difficult to be profound about 2020, however, a friend recently said to me, “This year has been terrible for my social life, but amazing for my career.” So yes, we can be thankful for real estate. Interesting that we all know how essential we are and yet, someone had to actually “deem” us essential. - You can thank your RPAC dollars for that! Please donate in 2021, it is a small amount for a large impact. I promise.
The LOCAR Board of Directors did an amazing job in 2020, continuing to hold our monthly meetings via ZOOM i.e., “you’re on mute”, and were diligent about making prudent decisions while representing you, our members. Thank you to the best BOD for LOCAR in the history of the whole world – we will never have another year like it!
I would be amiss if I did not give a shout out to Barb and Lisa at the board office for keeping the engine running and the car on the track! Thank You. I also appreciate all the board members, committee chairs, affiliate partners, and participating members as you are the heart of this organization and you are essential to us! The best thing I ever did in my career was get involved with organizations that effect and help drive this business. I am blessed to have met you, my friends, and business partners sprinkled on me over the years with the mere hope of making a difference. You can make a difference too – come get involved!
I found myself using the word HOPE this week in emails to colleagues and friends.
Hope for healing and recovery.
Hope for the magic of a new year.
Hope for learning new ways to connect and care for each other.
Hope for kindness and selflessness.
Hope that 2021 will bring us back some of what we lost and that soon we can be together and be able to actually “see” our smiling faces.
As we quickly approach the new year, remember, that often when you think you are at the end of something, you are at the beginning of something else …
Whatever that may end up being, we are better and stronger together. Make each day count as only you can control that.
I wish you all hope, kindness, love, and all the best in 2021.
