The “Lorain Sign” started as just an idea from LoCAR REALTOR® members Andrea and Jeff Neal. The idea became reality through generous donations from the private sector and local businesses.
The project would not have been possible without the creative assistance of Lorainite, Brian Bartlebaugh, a lifelong friend of the Neals. Brian was more than happy to volunteer his time to give back to his community as the Designer Project Engineer. Together they raised the $25,000-plus needed to begin fabrication of the sign.
Next, Lorain City Mayor Jack Bradley and staff approved sign design and site location.
The fabrication process was next on the list. Kuhn Fabricating, S K Finishing-Powder Coating, Terminal Ready Mix-Foundation, and Tim Foisy Trucking-Installation Crane Service … all talented local business owners who stepped up to assist in this 16-foot sign project.
Lighting for the sign will be installed in spring of 2022 by Patrick Lighting. Plus, a lighting fixture will be donated by Jim Long of Main Street Lorain Development Corporation. Sidewalks, designated parking spaces and landscaping will also be added. The site will display a dedication plaque referencing the names of those who donated to the success of this project.
Lorain’s waterfront is priceless! The sign is an added draw for people to experience our natural resource.
“My husband and I are part of the downtown revitalization efforts and we thought it was appropriate to have the sign near the downtown area for people to come and take selfies, wedding pictures, senior class pictures and so on for generations to come,” explains Andrea. “Then of course … walk downtown to the restaurants, enjoy a Rockin’ on the River concert, visit the Palace Theater, etc.”
Lorain mayor Jack Bradley cut the ribbon and unveiled the sign on January 7, 2022. According to Mayor Bradley, “That’s what being Lorain Proud is all about, giving back to your community, not just saying, what’s the community going to do for me?,” He adds, “But what you’re going to do for the community
Thank you to Andrea and Jeff Neal.
